What We Believe

God: We believe in God the Father, the creator of heaven and earth. We believe there is only one God (Deut. 6:4; Is. 44:6) and that He eternally exists in three distinct persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19; 1 Corinthians 12:4-6). Furthermore, all three are co-equal in nature and attributes (Ps. 90:2; Heb 9:14; John 8:11).

Jesus Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the second person of the trinity, and that he is co-equal with God the Father (John 10:30). Jesus Christ is also fully human—a reality that occurred during his incarnation (John 1:14). Consequently Jesus Christ has two natures—he is fully divine and fully human (Philippians 2:6). The best way to explain this mystery is to understand that Jesus added humanity to his divine nature upon his incarnation.

Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity and is co-equal with God the Father and Jesus the Son (Matthew 28:19; Acts 5:3-4), We believe that He possesses the qualities of personhood such as intelligence (1 Corinthians. 2:10-11), emotion (Ephesians. 4:30), and volition (Acts 16:6). We also believe the Holy Spirit is God based on apostolic testimony (Acts 5:3-4) and direct association (Matthew 28:18-19, 1 Corinthians. 12:4-7). We also believe the Holy Spirit administers spiritual gifts to believers to build up and edify the church (1 Corinthians 12).

The Bible: We believe that God has revealed His nature, His character and His plan for salvation exclusively through the Scriptures (2 Tim 3:16). We believe that God inspired human authors to write the Scriptures and proclaim His message (2 Peter 1:21). In doing so, God guided the personalities and writing styles of the biblical author’s—through His Spirit—thus superintending the whole process (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 1 Corinthians 2:13). We also believe the Bible in its original manuscript was without error.

Angels: We believe in the existence of angels, who are spiritual beings (Heb. 1:14), created by God (Psalm 148:1-6, John 1:1-3) before the creation of the world (Job 38:1-7). They are spiritual beings, initially a created order above mankind (Hebrews 2:7)—yet still they must not be worshipped (Colossians 2:18).  Angels either serve and praise God (Matthew 24:31) or they serve and follow Satan (Matthew 25:41). Lastly, Satan, the chief adversary of God, though created as a model angel, rebelled because of his desire to be like God, and brought forth initial sin into the universe (Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:13-16).

Sin: We believe sin is the failure of mankind to conform to God’s perfect standards of righteousness (1 John 3:4). We believe that sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2), everyone is a sinner (Romans 3:23), and that we will die without going to heaven unless we acknowledge and deal with our sin nature (Romans 6:23). The only hope we have for overcoming the penalty of sin is to believe and trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior (John 3:16). Otherwise, we are eternally condemned.

Salvation: We believe that God provided salvation to men and women on the basis of subsitutionary atonement, which was achieved through Christ’s death on the cross for all of humanity (1 John 2:2; 2 Cor. 5:20-21). Ultimately, men and women receive this salvation exclusively through faith (John 3:16, 36). However, the evidence of this faith should produce good works (Eph. 2:10).

The Last Days and Return of Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ will return for his people (1 Thessalonians. 4:17). Prior to his return, we believe God will pour out His righteous wrath upon the the world (Matthew 24:4-21; Rev. 6-19). After these events, God will refine, redeem, and restore the old created order (2 Peter 3:10) and establish a new heaven, which will come down from the heavens onto the new earth. Ultimately, there will literally be "heaven on earth." At this time, the righteous will live in the glorious presence of God forever (2 Pet. 3:13; Rev. 21:1-22:5).

17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him
